Save Our Schools Arizona (SOSAZ), a local non-profit which claims to support public schools, gets a seat at the table on a regular basis for television and media interviews. The organization is the go-to when it’s time to bash school choice, Republican politicians, and parental rights. Save Our Schools may be best known for its lack of math skills which was on public display two years go. The executive director, Beth Lewis, insisted SOSAZ had enough petition signatures to put Empowerment Scholarships on the ballot, but fell way short. Even the Arizona Mirror couldn’t cover for the horrendous math mistake. Nevertheless, media still holds the organization in high regard as Mrs. Lewis continues to appear in media segments regularly.
While SOSAZ is heavily involved in local and state politics, it is kept afloat by wealthy out-of-state interests. An entry in a recent Arizona Secretary of State filing shows over $20,000 came from an individual in California.
Beth Lewis can double-check our math, but the Toben donation is almost 88% of Save Our Schools total funds as of July 26, 2024.
Why would anyone in California donate such a large amount to a non-profit in Arizona? Most folks don’t have almost $21,000 sitting around. However, Steve Toben does and he’s chosen to use it to influence Arizona politics. SOSAZ has published many endorsements for local elections this November. For example, in Mesa this campaign literature has been floating around:
State Senator Eva Burch bragged about her abortion on the floor during a legislative session earlier this year. Current Representative Lorena Austin invited a drag show to the Arizona Legislature this past Spring. And Seth Blattman just tweeted his love for child murder.
Courtney Davis, the only Mesa Governing Board incumbent on the Save Our Schools flyer, has been quietly sitting by while her district’s teachers are sexually grooming children. Her silence is complicity.
Why did Steve Toben donate to an organization which supports agendas like this? Mr. Toben is heavily involved with climate activism. He is on the board of Growald Climate Fund.
Here is the focus of Growald:
Growald has ties to the Rockefellers as noted in the first screenshot above. One of the focuses of the climate agenda is to reduce the the population, as explained here. In addition, historically the Rockefeller family has supported abortion and birth control.

Now it all comes together in the suburb of Mesa, Arizona. A privileged individual from an upscale community in a neighboring state is funding a non-profit in Arizona which pushes abortion and LGBTQ in the public square while prohibiting parents’ rights and transparency. It gets better. These same candidates force inclusion and diversity on the rest of us. Ironically, look at the description of Portola Valley, where Steve Toben resides according to his SOSAZ donation.
“Exclusinary Zoning Ordinances”? Remember that the next time Save Our Schools Arizona tells the rest of us all of our shortcomings. It is time to execute some exclusionary practices here in the Grand Canyon State and exclude ANY Save Our Schools-endorsed candidate from any public office, especially those involving children.
